Boring

I've had a heel issue for about 5 months and finally went to see the doctor. I'm awaiting results of the x-rays that will determine if orthopedic type measures are required, but in the meantime I have been advised that I should chill the f- out on putting any unnecessary pressure on it for at least a week -- which means no hiking (it's perfect hiking weather), running (but it doesn't hurt when I run), excess walking (not environmentally friendly), standing around at Coachella (ok fine). I rented "Bourne Ultimatum" to encourage me to sit on the couch, and it just made me want to run more.
XOXO

I am so in love with Stephen Colbert and Feist. The CW, on the other hand, is so lame. As usual, my media habits trend towards the 14 year old girl demographic if I'm not careful. We'll get into my issues with Gossip Girl some other time, but apparently Jenny went to my high school (she showed up at the Homecoming Dance during the writer's strike) before she went, you know, on to bigger and better things. I wasn't sure if I should be encouraged by the news that Scotch exports were up last year.
"Night Comes On"

I have decided that my current dream job is working on the tv show, "The Office." Everyone seems to genuinely like working on the show, and it is a genius show as far as being a total network hit (sure it could be darker or weirder or slower, but then it would be canceled and all of us self-congratulating snobs wouldn't be able to watch it anymore). Also, it would mean that I have become far more talented and funny as a writer, more interesting or capable as an actor, or totally able to support myself as a production assistant (because I know that I can make and get coffee like nobody's business). Or that I have finally slept with the right person and wouldn't that be a whole other story.
Abortion and Hitler

From the NY Times front page: "The Bruising Will Go On for the Party: Democrats worry that the nomination battle is undermining their effort to unify the party." Um, sorry, but the Democrats are undermining their effort to unify the party. Sure, it's easier for McCain to not have his own ilk calling attention to his various faults when the opponents are sniping at each other. But his time will come. The Republicans may even do it themselves. I have to believe that McCain is fighting a serious behind-the-scenes battle with the "true" conservative element of teh Republicans (TCETR) who hate him or, worse, the TCETR are laying in wait to blackmail him into following their line. At any rate, the Democrats just happen to be doing their battles in public, and they are doing it over completely inane things. Get your s- together on Iraq... actually, let's say the entire geopolitical situation that we are in... plus economic policy, some good old-fashioned U.S. idealism (information operations, if you will), and some social progressivism for good measure. Yes, this is idealistic political me talking. At this point, I'm willing to throw my lot in with any party if they'll give me someone halfway aspirationally competent.

I'm screwed, basically.

And while I'm editing my blog post, here's my current favorite source for military/Iraq commentary: Abu Muqawama. It's way in the trenches (so to speak) and dangerously close to its subject matter (so to speak), but with snark to spare (and you know how that makes me feel). Does anyone actually care?
Update
Well, I was three days early, but I wandered into an indie (sort of) college record store in Charlottesville, VA, bought my morning cup of tea, and, in a fit of nostalgia, bought the new R.E.M. album. Times have changed.

Paul, if you're reading this, I got the stuff, and I should be sending back some stuff soon.

Stay tuned.
